HINARI is a programme set up by WHO together with major publishers and provides free or very low cost online access to the major journals to biomedical and related social sciences to local, not-for-profit institutions in developing countries. The website is available in multiple languages (English, Spanish, French, Chinese and - new! Russian and Arabic).
Up to 13,000 journals (in 30 different languages), up to 28,800 e-books, up to 70 other information resources are now available to health institutions in more than 100 countries. Among the publishers are Blackwell, Elsevier Science, the Harcourt Worldwide STM Group, Wolters Kluwer International Health & Science, Springer Verlag and John Wiley.
Certain eligibility criteria have to be met, and registration is required (one per institution - after which all staff members and students are entitled to access the information resources).
Training material is available and provides guidance to users as well as trainers.
