ASTMH/Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Annual Meeting Travel Awards

ASTMH/BMGF Travel Awards support the travel of selected students, young investigators and scientists actively working in the tropical medicine field to attend and participate in the

Annual Meeting. Awardees are selected through a competitive process. Those selected participate in the meeting through oral or poster presentations. Selections are based on abstract quality, research results and career development potential. ASTMH membership is not required. Residents of Low and Low-Middle Income Countries (L/LMIC) are particularly encouraged to apply.

The Travel Awards are offered to qualified students, early career investigators and scientists actively working in the tropical medicine field to attend the Society’s Annual Meeting. The online application is now open. Apply by March 28. Read the complete guidelines.

ASTMH Young Investigator Awards

The Young Investigator Awards will be presented to outstanding young researchers during the Annual Meeting. This award encourages developing young scientists to pursue careers in various aspects of tropical disease research.

Applicants must be ASTMH members ($15 pre-doc/$25 post-doc). Not a member yet? JOIN TODAY.

AWARD: Winners receive $900 USD cash award, First-tier Mentions receive $600 USD cash award and Honorable Mentions receive $450 USD cash award.

Eligibility requirements - Eligibility is limited to current student/post-doctoral members of ASTMH who had a primary role in various aspects of tropical disease research and experimentation. The applicants must be available to present their research during the Young Investigator Award competition held in the morning of the opening day of the Annual Meeting.

American Committee on Arthropod-Borne Viruses (ACAV) Student/Post-Doc Travel Awards

Up to seven individuals are presented the ACAV student/post-doc travel awards by the

ASTMH’s American Committee on Arthropod-Borne Viruses (ACAV). Applicants must be either graduate students or post-doctoral fellows who are actively conducting arbovirus research.

Recipients will be awarded a complimentary meeting registration and up to $500 to defray costs associated with attending the meeting.

In addition, one eligible post-doctoral fellow will be considered for the L/LMIC (low and low-middle income) award for 2018, which will include a complimentary meeting registration and up to $3,000 to attend the Annual Meeting. Eligible applicants must be a citizen and currently residing in an L/LMIC country. This will be awarded based on need, research achievements and recommendations.

AWARD: Complimentary registration and up to $3,000 USD cash award for one eligible L/LMIC recipient

Eligibility Requirements - Eligibility is limited to graduate students and post-doctoral fellows who are actively conducting arbovirus research. The award recipients will present their research either orally or as a poster during the Annual Meeting. Additionally award recipients will present “lightning talks” about their research as part of the ACAV annual business meeting, which occurs during the ASTMH meeting.

American Committee on Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers' Health - Clinical Group (ACCTMTH) Elsevier Clinical Research Awards

This award recognizes excellence in clinically-oriented research presented by a student at the Annual Meeting. Applicants will be judged onsite and winners will be announced at the opening awards ceremony.

AWARD: Elsevier book credits in the amounts of $500, $300 and $200 USD to the top three winners

Eligibility Requirements - Eligibility is limited to students (within six months of completing undergraduate or master's level training, including medical undergraduate degrees) and post-doctoral fellows who are conducting clinically-oriented research with scientific clinical content. The applicants must be available to present their work during the Elsevier Clinical Research Award competition during the Annual Meeting.

Eligibility requirements: Eligibility is limited to any graduate student who is currently conducting research that directly or indirectly involves arthropods of medical importance. The award recipient will present his/her research either orally or as a poster during the Annual Meeting.

ACME Young Investigator AwardTravel  - International (Country of primary institution must be non-US)

Eligibility requirements - Eligibility is limited to an international student who is currently conducting research that directly or indirectly involves arthropods of medical importance. The award recipient will present his/her research either orally or as a poster during the Annual Meeting.

AWARD: Complimentary registration and up to $2,000 USD cash award

American Committee of Molecular, Cellular and Immunoparasitology (ACMCIP) Travel Award for Low or Low-Middle Income (L/LMIC) Trainees

Eligibility requirements: Eligibility is limited to a student or trainee who must be primarily working and living in a Low or Low-Middle Income Country (LMIC), not based full-time in a U.S or European research institute. The applicant must be a member of the ACMCIP and should submit an abstract representing novel and exciting research in the field of molecular, cellular or immunoparasitology. The award recipient will present his/her research either orally or as a poster during the Annual Meeting.

AWARD: Complimentary registration and up to $1000 USD cash award

ASTMH Committee on Global Health (ACGH) Student/Post-Doc Travel Awards

Eligibility is limited to graduate students, medical students, residents or post-doctoral fellows who are conducting global health research and actively participating in advocacy, program implementation or networking efforts for global health. Recipients will present their research at the meeting.

AWARD: Complimentary registration and up to $750 USD cash award
