About the Eighth EDCTP ForumThe 2016 Forum comes at an exciting time when EDCTP concluded its first programme and has started its second one (EDCTP2). The theme of this Forum is ‘Defeating poverty-related and neglected diseases in Africa: harnessing research for evidence-informed policies’.

The Forum offers many opportunities for stakeholders in the fight against poverty-related infectious diseases to sponsor the Forum, to support the Forum programme with symposia or collaborative sessions on scientific and policy-oriented topics, or to organise relevant satellite meetings which – though not part of the programme –create opportunities for participants and stakeholders alike.

At the Forum, EDCTP will award four international prizes dedicated to the promotion of scientific research, improved health and Africa-European collaboration. These awards are presented to outstanding individuals and research teams especially from Africa and Europe. The formal, electronic application/nomination procedure will be opened in June 2016.

The biennial EDCTP Forum is a prominent conference on poverty related diseases including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other neglected infectious diseases prevalent in Africa – and is expected to gather some 600 delegates. Since its first occasion, 12 years ago in Rome, Italy, the EDCTP Forum offers an opportunity for dialogue and exchange of ideas between scientists, policy makers, funders, donors and global health advocates in the field of clinical development of effective and accessible interventions against these poverty-related diseases.
