At a time when the centre of gravity for research in global health is shifting towards research driven from Lower and Middle Income Countries, The African Academy of Sciences and the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene are excited to announce a joint scientific meeting in Nairobi on 07-08 July 2016. This two-day meeting will provide a showcase for researchers from a wide range of disciplines to present latest developments around the theme of 'the epidemiological transition'. Featuring keynote presentations from research leaders across the African continent, the meeting will cover both communicable and non communicable diseases, drawing on basic, clinical and health systems research.
Call for abstracts
Young investigators, including PhD students and post-doctoral researchers, are invited to submit abstracts on recent basic, clinical and health systems research on a wide range of disciplines and disease areas around the theme of 'the epidemiological transition'.
Thanks to generous support from the Wellcome Trust, we are able to offer up to 10 travel scholarships for early-career investigators from low and middle-income countries to attend and present at the meeting. These will be selected from the successful abstract submissions in early June.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the presenter of the best papers and the best posters. All prize-winners will be encouraged to submit a short communication to one of the RSTMH journals.
Abstract submission is now open.
The deadline for submitting abstracts is Friday 20 May midday UK time.
