Essential Job Functions
Working directly with the Program Manager, in consultation with the Program Director: Academic
and Clinical Services and Chief Medical Officer, the Clinical Educator will be responsible for
supporting the implementation of Touch’s flagship program, Treat & Train, in the Lake Zone of
Tanzania. The Clinical Educator will be responsible for coordinating and mentoring a preceptor team
at the Shinyanga Regional Referral Hospital (SRRH) dedicated to clinical training of nursing students
rotating from two academic institutions (the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences –
CUHAS, the Bugando Medical Centre – BMC). The Clinical Educator will provide supportive
supervision to hospital staff in providing care to the local patient population to ensure the overall
hospital nursing services are delivered at the appropriate quality standards and the hospital provides
an environment conducive to learning. The Clinical Educator will also directly support the training of
nursing students on rotation. Call schedules and clinical service requirements will be determined in
conjunction with the Medical Officer in Charge of SRRH and Matron, and be mutually accepted by
the Touch Foundation and the Clinical Educator. The academic calendar is composed of two
semesters. Semester One takes place from October to February and Semester Two takes place from
March to July. A detailed calendar that incorporates clinical education responsibilities and contact
information for direct reports will be provided prior to Clinical Educator start date.

Responsibilities and Tasks
Clinical Instruction / Program Implementation
Coordinate the clinical preceptor team providing clinical education to nursing students
rotating at SRRH
Provide mentorship and supportive supervision to preceptor team to improve nursing services
at SRRH
Take an active role in training nursing students on rotations while building the capacity of
local staff
Serve as professional mentor to students undergoing clinical rotations and clinical staff
located at SRRH
Provide input into academic curriculum and liaise with faculty and staff from the nursing
academic institutions
Advise the Touch team and our partners on improvements at SRRH including clinical protocols, processes,
organizational structure, and resources

Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Knowledge, Education and Experience
Nursing Bachelor’s Degree, Master degree added plus
Current nursing licensure in home state/country. Must obtain licensure in Tanzania if not
already licensed in Tanzania. Experience in an academic setting providing clinical education
to nursing students
Experience working with developing country healthcare workers, program managers or policy
makers, preferable
Demonstrated understanding of global health issues
Good judgment and discretion to represent the Touch Foundation in a highly professional
manner, as well as respect for local “culture”
Experience working with cross functional and external groups, including managers,
healthcare workers and other stakeholders
