About: Dr. Maria Yavropoulou, is an Endocrinology Consultant in the Endocrinology Unit of the 1st Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) that is located at LAIKO University Hospital of Athens, Greece. Dr. Yavropoulou has received her Medical Degree from the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) and has specialized in Endocrinology in AHEPA University Hospital of Thessaloniki, Greece. After successfully completing her Boards in Endocrinology she has received specialized training at the University of Leiden, the Netherlands (LUMC), under the supervision of Professor Socrates Papapoulos and the University of Arkansas, USA (UAMS), under the supervision of Professor Stavros Manolagas. During her 2-years research sabbatical she was engaged in the management of rare and complex diseases of bone metabolism and molecular in vivo and in vitro techniques focusing on the handling of transgenic experimental rodents. She has received her Post-Doctoral Degree (PhD) in diseases that affect bone metabolism at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece and she also holds two Master's Degrees in "Translational Research in Molecular Biology and Genetics" and in "Epidemiology - Research Methodology in Biomedical Sciences in Clinical Practice and Public Health", of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). Since October 2019, she has been the Deputy Head of the Center for Expertise of Rare Disorders of Calcium and Phosphate Metabolism (C.E.R.E.D) of the 1st Department of Propaedeutic and Internal Medicine of LAIKO University Hospital of Athens (https://www.appk.gr/en/centre-of-excellence-for-endocrine-disease) and the Patient and Quality Coordinator of the Center for Expertise for Adult Langerhans Histiocytosis in the Hellenic Air Force and Veterans General Hospital of Athens (https://adultlch.gr/index.php/en/home/) As a consultant she is actively involved in the management of all endocrine diseases in the Endocrinology Outpatient Clinic with emphasis on the rare endocrine diseases of calcium and phosphate metabolism. Her research activities focus on Bone Metabolism and Diabetes.
