About: David M. Ndetei is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Nairobi and founding Director of Africa Institute of Mental and Brain Health (AFRIMEB). He also serves as Director of World Psychiatric Association Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Kenya Professor Ndetei has published 451 academic publications in psychiatry and psychosocial mental health, including 6 books and 21 monographs. His research focuses on community approaches to innovative interventions that are sociocultural and contextual. He has been PI or Co-I for most Kenyan clinical and community epidemiological studies on mental health and substance abuse. He is dedicated to advancing psychiatric education and training in Kenya. He has mentored numerous undergraduate and postgraduate students. He was instrumental in developing specialized programs at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Nairobi. He has also mentored students globally seeking exposure to community-based mental health. Under his leadership, AFRIMEB has become a leading regional center for mental and brain health research, collaborating with professionals worldwide.
