About: I’m Dr. Livingstone Gayus Dogara, a physician-scientist and Associate Professor of Hematology at Kaduna State University, Nigeria. My work bridges clinical hematology, academic leadership, and translational research, with a particular focus on sickle cell disease, bleeding disorders, and health systems strengthening. I currently serve as the Reader and former Head of the Department of Hematology and Blood Transfusion at both Kaduna State University and Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital. I also lead the Hemophilia Treatment Centre at BDTH and chair the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences Research Unit at KASU College of Medicine. As Principal Investigator for the Kaduna site of the Consortium on Newborn Screening for Sickle Cell Disease in Africa (CONSA), I collaborate with international networks including SPARC-Net, SADaCC, and the EU Horizon 2020 ARISE Project. My goal is to translate clinical insights into scalable, community-based interventions that improve outcomes for patients across Africa. I hold an MBBS from Ahmadu Bello University and a Fellowship in Hematology from the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria. I’m currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Clinical Hematology and have trained under renowned experts such as Prof. Sulaimon Akanmu, Prof. Johnny Mahlangu, and Prof. Lewis Hsu. My research has been published in journals like Blood Advances, Thorax, and Frontiers in Genetics, with over 35 peer-reviewed articles and more than 270 citations. I maintain active profiles on Google Scholar, ORCID, ResearchGate, and the AD Scientific Index. I’ve been honored with awards including the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship, ASH Global Capacity Building Grants, and a Pfizer grant for community-based hemophilia care. I also co-founded the Livingstone Possible Foundation, a faith-based NGO dedicated to community health and empowerment. Through mentorship, research, and advocacy, I’m committed to shaping the future of hematology and health equity across Africa and beyond.
