About: Am working for SEEK Group Support Psychotherapy Initiative LTD, as a project coordinator and a basic livelihood expert trainer. Currently we are operating with two programs, Group Support Psychotherapy (GSP) and Tele-Support Psychotherapy (TSP). SEEKGSP which stands for Social Emotional and Economic empowerment through Knowledge of Group Support Psychotherapy is an innovative mental health program that creates mental Health awareness, trains community lay health workers to recognize and respond to depression by delivering Group Support Psychotherapy (GSP). GSP treats depression by enhancing emotional and social support networks, the ability to practice positive coping skills and income generating skills. A great advantage of GSP is that it does not require ongoing input from expert mental health practitioner; instead exciting primary healthcare workers in rural health centers are trained to deliver GSP sessions. In turn, they have been able to train lay health workers, who identify individuals with depression and treat them with GSP. In this way, local communities are empowered to take control of their own mental health need. Tele-Support Psychotherapy (TSP) is an online platform addressing the mental health treatment gap by using mobile phones during the Covid-19 pandemic targeting the majority of mental health problems of mild to moderate severity which make them amenable to first line psychological treatment. Its a newly developed SEEKGSP innovation that is being evaluated among the youths in Kampala District.
