Fiocruz collaborative and open access web space at The Global Health Network aims to strengthen networks and improve capacities for public health research regionally and globally, by providing a vibrant virtual environment where professionals, students and researchers can share experiences, knowledge, method tools and resources. We intend to achieve that goal by offering e-learning courses and disseminating research findings that could help to reduce health inequalities and promote the quality of life in the long term.
This online platform is coordinated by Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), the most prominent Institution of Science and Technology in Health in Latin America, whose mission is to produce, disseminate and share knowledge and technologies, aiming at strengthening and consolidating the Unified Health System (SUS, acronym in Portuguese for the Brazilian public health system) and the promotion of health and quality of life for the population.
Albeit not a University, Fiocruz is devoted to high quality education in science, technology and innovation in health, based on the relevant scientific research. Fiocruz offers a broad spectrum of training, ranging from technical courses for High School to post-graduate programmes in several areas, such as doctoral and masters programmes, distance learning, short courses, residency programs, basic and professional education.
In addition, Fiocruz also offers Massive Open Online Course (MOOCS) and professional qualification through the Virtual Campus Fiocruz.
The Virtual Campus Fiocruz is a platform that integrates different environments, technologies and open educational resources. It provides information about the courses of all units, as well as holds virtual communities (practice and learning) and virtual learning environments (Moodle). It currently offers about 1000 courses, of which 500 are short courses (face-to-face and e-learning), and it has 35.000 enrolled students, of these 16.000 are in the e-learning modality.
