WHAT THE STUDENTS SAY

Frangelo_Tampus_Testimonal

Being an early career researcher and part of a clinical trial center, I was looking for a way to advance my knowledge and aptitude in conducting health research. I was taking free online courses but there was still something lacking. Luckily, I stumbled upon the PGDip in Global Health Research from The Global Health Network Newsletter. The curriculum was enticing so I took a leap of faith and applied. As of this writing, we are about to start our third term, and the course does not disappoint! I am learning so much, both from concepts and real-life examples. The unique perspectives of the lecturers and tutors, as well as the individual members of the class add so much depth to our discussions. The formative assessments are challenging but the learnings and transferrable skills I developed are worth it. The course team has also been accommodating, and responsive to our requests as part-time students from different time zones. I also appreciate how our tutors encourage and check on us to make sure that what we are learning, we can apply to our personal lives.

There is still vast inequity in where research happens and who benefits, and yet evidence from low resource settings is pivotal for successful health interventions everywhere. To address persistent skills gaps, this course teaches students from anywhere in the world to design, conduct and report ethical, internationally compliant yet contextually relevant studies, and take findings into policy and practice. Impact goes far beyond the qualification, as we nurture alumni in years to come through The Global Health Network’s knowledge areas, tools, resources, training and career development opportunities.

Students may be working in research sites, pharmaceutical companies, contract research organisation, regulators and funders. To achieve maximum equity and diversity, those in low resource settings do not need to leave their workplace or family, and travel to a high-income country with all the associated costs.

Please consider supporting such students in accessing this life changing qualification and developing a legacy for them and their wider research networks, whether a staff member or through a bursary.
